Transmission is not up shifting like it should?

its a 2002 audi a4 1.8t 5 speed auto, i don't know if its just the way the car is, or if trans has a problem particular between gears 2-5, at it is reeving at just above 2000 in 3rd and feels like it should be in higher, and at 45mph same rev still in 4th, the reason why it doesn't seem like the car always did this, It is NOT in sport mode either, if anyone has a a4/pas sat/jetta with this engine is it normal or something wrong should i get it checked
